"Thursday 25 October 2012. Doors 7pm, free entry, 1 George Street Thebarton. Sticky pub carpets, Parkway Drive singlet, SG bass, floorboards vibrating under the kick drum."

The reality behind the stage photo: I was 18. The band was For Glory. When they suddenly lost their bassist, I had never really played bass before, but I picked it up, learned the set, and filled in for two shows. That fearless leap into the deep end on sheer adrenaline and hyperfocus captures so much of how my brain worked.

"Teenage hyperfocus: starting a band at 16 with mates, chasing riffs, and turning it into an academic Year 12 SACE research project."

Started ShotGun Not! with friends when we were 16. In 2011, for my high school Year 12 Research Project, I wrote, tracked, and produced our original track 'Walkout Procedure'.

Concert memory

"Saturday 12 December 2009 at Thebby. I was 15, with my two younger brothers—the first ever gig for all three of us. The energy of the crowd, the lights, and that soaring chorus ringing across the theatre."

The first gig I ever attended. I was 15 and went with my two younger brothers; it was the first concert experience for all three of us. I remember The Sundance Kids so vividly—hearing 'Drive Away' that night became an indelible core memory. For Short Stack, 'Shimmy A Go Go' was the absolute highlight and probably still is their best track.
